It is always a joy to visit the beautiful town of Grantown on Spey. There is a great selection of hotels and B&Bs to staying overnight before heading over the Tomintoul /Cockbridge road through the Grampian Mountains and head towards Braemar and the Balmoral Estate.

Speyside is home to the largest concentration of Scotch malt whisky distilleries in the world. Benromach, Glen Grant, Glen Moray, Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet, and Strathlisa,

The Speyside Cooperage is where a great deal of Scotland’s whisky casks are processed.

Braemar Gathering
The Braemar Gathering, is always held on the first Saturday in September in The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Braemar. The event starts at 9.30 a.m. and usually finishes at about 5.00 p.m.

While there have been Gatherings of one sort or another at Braemar since the days of King Malcolm Canmore, nine hundred years ago, the Gathering has been run by BRHS since 1832 and from 2011 the Gathering has been run by Braemar Royal Highland Charity.

 During the summer, the estate is open to the public, where you are free to wander round and visit the exhibition in the ballroom..

If possible you can include a visit to one of the many Highland Games that take place throughout the summer.

The Scottish Highland Games Association (SHGA) is the governing body of Traditional Highland Games in Scotland. It represents over 60 Highland Games in Scotland with several associate members overseas.With traditional heavy athletic events like tug-o-war and the caber toss, as well as Highland dance competitions, track and field events, and piping, the games are a spectacle like no other.
