The three northern crofting counties (Ross & Cromarty; Sutherland; Caithness ) are remote and diverse. Often overlooked by the tour buses yet they offer some of the most dramatic coastlines and mountain scenery in Scotland.

Sparsely populated, the scenery ranges from dramatic coastlines in the west and north to blanket peatbog and formidable mountains in Wester Ross and Sutherland.

Single Track Roads

A single track road or one-lane road is a road that permits two-way travel but is not wide enough in most places to allow vehicles to pass one another. To overcome this problem, many single-track roads are provided with passing places.
